The Client
Templeton Performing Arts Center (TPAC) is a centrally located theater in San Luis Obispo County that offers guests a premier experience of professional staging, equipment, lighting design, and more. They desired to take their brand to the next level.
The Challenge
Unfortunately, due to the placement of the TPAC facility and past efforts, the brand was strongly associated with a small high school theater and not the legitimate facility that it is; this limited the organization’s potential and overall awareness as a community resource. The rebrand needed to help the brand clear this psychological gap of past association and enter a whole new world of true potential as a center that supports not only local arts but also professional traveling groups.
The Strategy
The current position of the brand in the market needs repositioning. It not only needed to help the public reassociate TPAC to its full potential, but also its position in the market needed to be elevated to represent the premium experience the brand offers. This meant the strategy must redefine the brand, but also focus on the true strengths the organization and facility offer to their guests, supporters, and performers.
The Design
To elevate the brand, we needed to visually signal its new posture in the market. The rebrand’s visual logo and identity will be the initial beacon that signals the improved essence of the brand. This design decision was inspired by the well-respected museums and galleries found throughout the world in larger metropolitan areas. This association instantly allows the brand to be anchored in the mind of the audience in a way that elevates and implies an experience of refined art, respect, creativity, and depth.
The Creative Solution*
The visual design approach for the brand’s identity has now created more opportunities for expansion based on the overall strategy. Whether through additional signage along the walking paths, the use of the brand color palette, or the stylization of imagery that represents the wide variety of performances under the TPAC brand, this cohesion enhances the brand experience. It not only makes the experience feel seamless but also extends to areas it previously overlooked. This drastically boosts the overall perceived value of the brand, its services, and the esteemed facility it offers to both local and traveling performers. The creative solution accomplished the repositioning of the brand that will achieve the goals of the TPAC leadership team to help the organization grow and reach its full potential as a desired performing arts center.
The Results
A dramatic increase in the value created and captured through a new brand that refines the positioning of the organization in the entertainment market while increasing the potential of performance opportunities due to the more appealing brand for traveling productions.
