A well-known hunting guide in California who specializes in guided hunts for boar, wild turkey, rams, deer/elk and quail/doves.

The Challenge

Taking the business to the next level and accounting for scalability and growth, we needed a new approach to the complete rebrand and new name. Deeper than just improving the identity, we needed to take the business beyond its service and current state by repositioning the brand to stand out from the competition and mean more than just hunting.

The Strategy

Competitors in this sector look and sound very similar to one another because they focus on the service they provide, not their uniqueness as a brand. By rebranding from the ground up, we were able to introduce a new name "Frontera Hunting" as well as an entire brand that challenges the status quo and focuses on telling a story that goes beyond just the activity of hunting. By tapping into psychographics through storytelling, we are able to add value and emotional connection to the brand that wouldn’t have been possible before. This not only improves the brand but transforms the services into branded experiences.

The Design

The identity design for this brand needed to be something that appealed to the audience while still enveloping more than just the act of hunting – to go beyond just the service of the business, but be able to mean more in the present and future. The design is a monogram-focused concept that is inspired by the circular base of a bullet casing that incorporates both subtle textures and stylings as well as a signature monogram. A professional and clean design that isn’t too literal while allowing the brand to go beyond just meaning “hunting” — this will enable future growth, scaling, and brand extensions like unique, custom achievement patches.

The complete transformation of the brand, took the business to a level where it is now able to signal to their audience the value their expertise delivers as well as the unforgettable experience they offer. The brand is able to expand the offerings of the business by being more relevant and having the clarity how to best do so. This led to unique and creative value adds for the brand like the gamification of the offerings with custom Frontera patches that are awarded for completing certain hunts. Just as the brand leans into creating memorable experiences, these brand extensions allow the business to engage on an even deeper level.

The Frontera Big Game subbrand was created to help leverage the perception of the Frontera brand while positioning the expertise for the niche market of big game hunting without diluting the original positioning of the brand. This brand extension allowed the business to expand a very specific and lucrative offering that complements the brand's experience while reaching a specific audience by capturing the search traffic for big game hunting in California.

The Frontera Big Game brand extension is able to not speak directly to the unique desires and situations of the hunters looking for big game hunting. These situations involve scheduling, tag drawings, and more that the business is now able to address more accurately while introducing new branded messaging to meet the potential guest where they are.

Part of the brand strategy for Frontera Hunting is to focus on the guest’s experience. This experience includes the high points of their hunt and also what they remember when they go home after the hunt. We wanted to create a method for gamification during the hunts to allow for goals they can aspire for and a fun reward they get for accomplishing. These patches are custom-made to reward when these events happen not only to create a more positive experience for the guest but create a magical moment that they will talk about and have a memento to take home with them.

The brand was extended to a handful of t-shirt designs that all allowed to support the brand and visually altering the name through typography and visuals to promote the brand's name into wearable memorablia. From vintage tin coffee mugs and leather patched trucker hats, this additional revenue stream capitalized on the unique and memorable experiences the guests have with the brand.
