The Strategy

Develop a reimagined wine membership that caters to existing members, but opens it to deeper exploration of novel wines that are exclusive to the members. The D.E.W.N. (Distinctive Explorative Wine Network) name is leveraged and used to pursue the essence of a secret society that still has references to the Bonny Doon theme throughout.

The Design

The membership’s visual identity and design of the exclusive wines needed to be in harmony as they reflect the Bonny Doon brand, but increase the horizon and reach of the brand.

The Creative Solution*

The creative concept of elevating the membership to that of a secret society brings a sense of imaginative play and increases the value by being able to enhance the brand’s overall experience at every touchpoint. It also gives clear direction for the exclusive wines and is a memorable experience that members will tell friends and family about.

The Results


The enhanced design of the wine labels led to the winning of a National Wine Industry Design Award in 2023 which Bonny Doon had been striving to accomplish for several years.

2022 Clairette Blanche

Bonny Doon Vineyard asked us to create a label for their 2022 Clairette Blanche that not only connected with the theme of their brand, but also achieve an industry award they had been attempting to obtain for several years.

After establishing the concept of “clarity” and naming the wine “Perfect Clairetty” as a nod to the varietal, we went on to conceptualize how clarity is literally associated with the eye and abstractly associated with vision. Now with strategic clarity, we helped the brand express its fantastical and enchanting personality by leaning into the visual representation of vision through a crystal ball that also portrays the literal human eye. The crystal ball was given dimension with a spot gloss on the glassy orb.

This layering of concept created a label that not only became a fan favorite but went on to win 1st Place in Wine Business Monthly Magazine’s 2023 PACK Design Awards. Through strategic clarity, the vision and design came to life catching all the right eyes.

2022 Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre

As ordinary a red blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre (GSM) has become, we wanted this GSM to be extraordinary. Its out of this world name of “Galactic Stellar Manifestations” and quite the kaleidoscope of flavors, this GSM needed to be cosmic.

The groovy typography accompanied by the imagery of space, eyes, mushrooms, and more sets the stage for one DEWN of a trip. The styling of the hand-drawn artwork harmonized with the Bonny Doon brand while being electrified by the application of a celestial clear holographic foil to add a flair of shine and sparkles.

As fun and zany this label design may be, it stayed true to its explorative roots and manifested a quality wine that makes the ordinary... extraordinary.

Staying true to the DEWN brand of exploration and celebration of the unexplainable, we transformed a varietal into the mesmerizing and all knowing Great Tannat.

Through personification the grape varietal of tannat now became a wonder from beyond the universe. We used the traveling mentalist theme to create this label’s concept that created marvelous visuals that even influenced the messaging on the back label. The wording was able to align with the theme and talk about the wine as if it is the spectacle known as The Great Tannat.

The experience of the wine was elevated through the charm of strategy and design leaving the wine levitating to not only stand out from others, but easier to pour as well…

Making Contact

2023 Chenin Blanc

This unique wine harnessed the power of citrus through exposure to orange peels for 16 days to produce an orange-tinted wine. The naming of the wine leaned into the contact it makes with the skin of the oranges. Resonating the theme of the DEWN brand and product family, we associated this with the alien encounter of “making contact” with another life form.

The design of the label depicts this contact by showing two circles meeting. This abstract representation shows two worlds colliding as they make contact with one another. The orange sphere hints at the peel with color and applied texture while the green circle represents a grape.

At the center of the label is a balanced circle that highlights the exact point of contact, but when examined closely reveals the iris of an eye. The square label is accompanied by a back label where we crafted messaging that wrote about the wine disguised in scientific lab notes as if a researcher has stumbled upon a new discovery and has finally…. made contact.

As a misunderstood grape varietal, this wine reveals the truth about the wine and its true potential. We wanted a concept that played with the aspect of the classic game “Truth or Dare” as Trousseu Gris was once known as a Gray Riesling, but truthfully it is so much more and now the truth has been made available through this revelation.

Revealing the truth is always a risky venture, but daring to step out and discover is what the DEWN brand is focused on. To explore and dare to be different and discover the Truth.

Upon further observation of the extraordinary performer, you notice attributes that seem beyond ordinary. Beyond this world; even extraterrestrial. This embodiment of the cab and conceptualization of its starry performance is nothing like you have ever seen before; a performance to remember.
